So it looks like everybody started a blog in 2026, which is really cool.
However, do you know what’s not cool?
Trying to come up with post ideas when you literally don’t know where to start.
I’ve been here, my clients have been here. I know that coming up with post topics can be really stressful and really hard especially if it feels like everybody else has already said everything.
The big issue as well is trying to say something that is strategic.
Because a lot of post ideas, or even lists that you might find online telling you like these are post ideas that you can choose, they are really easy to write but they are not gonna lead to conversions. They’re not gonna help you grow your business and it means that you are wasting your time writing blog posts that are not actually going to lead to revenue.
So in this blog post I want to break down how you can come up with blog post ideas that are actually going to help you meet your goals and grow your business so instead of wasting time just writing educational blog posts that never lead anywhere, you are gonna write posts that are gonna help you grow your business and your time is not gonna be wasted.
These are methods that I teach in my social sessions and workshops and methods that I use and I use with clients so I know that they work.
Hi, I’m Elle…
Let’s talk about what makes a blog post convert.
Conversion is anything where somebody takes an action after reading your blog post that you want them to do, so that could be signing up to your email list, it could be booking one of your offers, it could be clicking on another blog post, it could be going to a different page on your website, it could be buying something from you, but it basically means that instead of just reading your blog post and being like “damn that was really helpful”, thanking you for it, that they’re actually like “oh okay, now what do I do?” and it’s gonna help them do something else.
So not all blog posts are optimised for conversions. A lot of blog posts exist to gain attention and get readers onto the blog but people don’t necessarily know what to do with it afterwards and also people’s random ideas are not linked to the rest of their brand. So when we’re talking about blog posts, we’re talking about blog posts that are strategically built around the rest of your brand, the rest of your content strategy, the rest of your funnel, in a way that links all of it together.
Essentially, the most important thing to think about here is that you want to write blog posts that are gonna align with your offers and your business goals and are gonna get people to move towards those things, so move further down your funnel rather than just entering it and then not going anywhere.
That’s exactly what we’re gonna focus on today. This blog post ideas that we’re gonna talk about are built around different types of conversion in your business that you might come across all of them are beneficial to you and things that you might want to use to help you make more money more revenue more sales more traffic more growth instead of just random ideas that might grab peoples attention, and then never drive them to action.
I’m also an ambassador for romanticizing business and making it fun, an expert in non-toxic conversion copy, a Miranda Priestley apologist, and my actual job description should really be ‘matchmaker for you and your dream clients“
If you liked reading this blog post – I would love to hang out more with you 🙂
And these, IMO, are the best ways for us to that:
Okay so these are seven of my favorite methods they are tried and tested.
I use them myself and with my clients and they will help your blog feel strategic make it easy for you to link it to the rest of your funnel and get you more clicks and action.
One of the easiest ways to plan your post in a way that will convert and be strategic is planning your posts around SEO so what you essentially do with this method is you use SEO keyword research to find out what people are searching for in your industry in relation to your offers and what is kind of coming up a lot with SEO that you could actually rank for and then you write blog post about that
However, I don’t want you to just go on like Semrush and find a keyword that people are searching for and then just be like I’ll make a blog post about that you wanna find keywords that are related to your business your audience your offers and things that you talk about so for example for me, I would want to find keywords that are related to website copywriting because that’s what I do and I would look for any questions that are coming up about website copywriting that I can use to bring people back to my business where it’s somebody who is looking for information about website copywriting they’re looking for information about my industry and what I do and I’m using those SEO keywords that I know I can rank for so I can get on page one of Google and pull people back to my business using that
Following on from that and one of my other favourite methods is planning blog post specifically around your offers or products that you sell and you can combine this with SEO in fact I would highly recommend that you do.
This is where you take each of your individual offers and you think about what people might need to know about that offer or you in order to want to work with you or learn more from you or buy from you.
So for example, some of my offers are: website copywriting packages, brand messaging packages, website copy audits, and writing blog posts for people.
So I might look at that and think – what kind of blog post could I write about website copywriting that might make somebody want to hire me, as a copywriter?
So I could write a blog post about whether or not it’s a good idea to hire a copywriter or DIY your copy.
Or I could write a blog post about how to write your about page, and then offer to audit their about page at the end of the blog post – as a reminder that I have an audit offer.
This is really strategic and it’s really great for conversions because you are not just posting randomly or doing things randomly you’re doing things that makes sense for your business and you’re planning everything around your offers so every time you write a blog it has a link back to your offer and you can add a CTA at the end of it which will directly link back to your offer
Another method that you can use that is slightly different where you can also combine SEO is planning a blog around affiliate marketing.
So if you have any affiliate links you can write blog posts specifically about that an example that I would give is I have a blog post about Flodesk versus ConvertKit because I have an affiliate link for Flodesk.
I actually do use Flodesk in my business so PSA but like if you’re gonna share an affiliate link, do not ever share one that you don’t use for business because it’s the fastest way for you to lose trust and make sure no one ever buys from you again.
But, if you have products that you love and you’re willing to share the affiliate link and you want to make a bit of extra money, you can write blog posts specifically around your affiliate links and use that to make some extra money on your blog
Another post idea thing that I love to do is using FAQ or audience Q&A so this is essentially where you take common asked questions or Q&A directly from your audience whether or not that’s in your email list or on your socials and you answer those using blog posts
These work really well because it means that you are writing blog posts specifically about the pain points of your target audience and you know for a fact that these are things that the specific people that you wanna work with are asking either because you’re getting these questions from past clients or people who are following you who might be future clients. You’re answering the questions that they wanna hear in a way that shows that you’re an expert and that you can solve their problems
When you’re writing this kind of post you really want to prioritise questions where someone has a problem or questions where somebody has an obstacle, something that would stop them from working with you or hiring you for what you’re doing and so an example of this that I could give is if somebody had a question like do I need to be a good writer to book an audit?
I can see from that obstacle that they have of wanting to book a copy audit with me as they’re worried that they won’t be a good enough writer and they’re embarrassed to show me the website that they wrote before I audited it and then I can write a blog post being like do you need to be a good writer: 5 things you’re getting wrong about website copywriting audits or something like that to kind of counter that idea.
These work really well because you can use these blog posts to counter objections or to use specific pain points to prove that you can solve these problems for them and you can also
The next type of blog post that you should 100% be writing and the type of ideas you should come up with is things around USP so things around what makes you different.
This could be blog posts about your specific process.
They could be blog posts about something that you do differently, something that you don’t like about your industry, or they can be hot takes posts about things you don’t do or agree with.
They could be posts about how your client experience is or like things that you are you know no one else is doing in an industry that makes you special.
These work really well because they establish you as an expert and they will speak to your ideal client who you know has maybe tried all the solutions or is looking for something that’s right for them and shows them why you are the best choice for them, and then at the end you can obviously CTA for your services.
Similar to your offers but slightly different is creating blog post ideas around your business goals so
For example, if one of your business goals is to grow your email list you might think about what kind of blog post could you write that would make people wanna sign up to your email list?
So if you have you know specifically talk about case studies in your email list you could write a blog post about how beneficial it is to talk about case studies in your email list.
If one of your business goals is to start a podcast you could write a blog post about your favorite podcasts and why people should listen to them like the best podcasts in your industry and why people should listen to them and then at the end you can talk about how you know you’re gonna start a podcast and they should join the waitlist.
These are posts where you show proof that you are good at what you do these are so great because they’re really good to share they’re really shareable in social media and newsletters and people love reading them people love to read stories of like this is how we got this result for somebody so how do you write case study posts?
That is a pretty great conversation question I can’t include all of the post but you essentially would like to take a success story in your business whether or not that’s a happy customer, a metric you were able to achieve, or something you did to fix a problem.
So for me it might be like the backstory of a website copy project.
So things like – this is where they were before they came to me.
This is what they wanted. These are the problems that we had.
This is how we solved them and this is the end result and this is now all of the benefits they’ve seen from it, like a huge increase in traffic, or booking more clients.
Or if you were a tech company, you might talk about how you managed to launch the third version of your app.
So like – this is what our app was like before, this is how we fixed all of those problems, this was how we did the launch and this is the result, etc.
These types of posts basically just build trust, and it also helps people see themselves as your customers or clients, because you’re showing them exactly what it looks like to work with you and what their lives would look like if they did.
The first thing is to look at SEO tools not only because you are gonna need to have an SEO word for every single blog post that you want to rank for because a big part of blogging is SEO but also so you can see if people are searching for useful terms like Semrush or Ahrefs to see search volume for those words, all those ideas and if people are actually searching for them
You can also look on social media and Google to see if people have written blog posts about that before or if it’s a topic that people are kind of talking about and searching for it’s okay if no one’s really talking about it as long as you know that that keyword is getting searches that actually gives you a better chance to rank for it but you also just wanna make sure it’s not too niche that absolutely nobody is searching for it
You can also just directly ask your audience which is kind of how you get those FAQ posts you can just say you know I want to write a blog post about this. What questions would you have that gives you help writing your outline or knowing how to kind of like frame the idea of the blog post you can ask them what blog post would they want you to write in the first place? What topics would they be interested in hearing and that is really great because it means that you are writing posts that you already know people wanna read and will be excited to read and share
You can also kind of take things that have worked in the past so if you have you know had social media posts that have been very successful or a newsletter article that’s been very successful. You can take those same ideas and put those into blog posts because you already know that those are interesting to people, that they like what you’re talking about and that your audience
So how do you make sure that those blog posts convert?
The biggest thing is to make sure that you have a CTA at the end of a blog post.
Don’t just finish it and be like if you like this blog post, you can leave a comment.
If I write a blog post about website audits, then I’m sure as sh*t going to tell people about how they can book a website audit at the end of the blog post.
If you really can’t think of a CTA, you can at the very least tell them read another blog post and stay on your site.
The entire point of planning your blog posts the way that we have is making sure that they link back to your offers or site, and keep people focused on your biz.
You don’t need to blog all the time to convert your audience – you just need to be strategic in how you plan them, and, add CTA’s.
When coming up with post ideas is basically as simple as just thinking what do I want them to do next and whatever the answer to that question is if it doesn’t benefit you as a business owner and it’s not gonna help you make money or meet one of your business goals, then maybe don’t write that blog post and leave it for another time
Also don’t overthink it but don’t worry too much because you know I’ve given you eight different ideas so that if you do one blog post a week that’s two full months of blog posts if you do one blog post a month then you’ve got four months worth of posts and have fun with it, but like don’t forget to ask your audience and don’t take it too seriously
If you do need help with this or you want a bit more information about how to go about this I actually do have a blog post planning strategy session where I will help you map out all of your blog post ideas for the next year, figure out what exactly you should be talking about, what you should say to audience. You also get an SEO workshop and you get a much more in-depth workshop of these methods with three other methods, one of which I haven’t included in this post is my favorite method. (I’ve come up with blog post ideas that were strategic within like 20 minutes of using this method)
